2022 Special Focus—Is Publishing as Critical Infrastructure? Innovation, Creativity, and Resilience in an Age of Artificial Intelligence
Dear Colleague,
We are pleased to share with you the Call for Papers for the Information, Medium & Society: Twentieth International Conference on Publishing Studies, University of the Aegean - Department of Mediterranean Studies, Rhodes, Greece, 20-22 June 2022.
The Information, Medium & Society – The Publishing Studies Research Network is brought together by a shared interest in investigating publishing practices as distinctive modes of social knowledge production. We seek to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries.
We invite proposals addressing one of the following themes.
A Blended Conference
For over 30 years, Common Ground has been invested in developing technologies that seek to break down barriers of access in scholarly communication. In each phase, we’ve built media platforms to support spaces for interdisciplinary dialogue, before such approaches were in vogue; connected international voices, when disciplines were too often isolated in national silos; and supported an agenda of access and equality, by offering pathways and opportunities for diverse voices. We now propose another kind of intervention -- to build a scholarly communication infrastructure for a blended future.
Our blended model seeks to transcend physical boundaries by offering a platform to extend in-person conference content online, while ensuring online-only delegates are afforded equal participatory and experiential spaces within the platform. At the same time, the model offers participants a legacy resource to which they can return in the Event application, with access to a social space in our Community application where fellow participants can keep connected long after the conference ends. With this step-by-step guide, you can get an insight into the new phases pre/during/post-conference of the blended conference experience.
Latest Program
In our blended conference model, we will offer both place-based and online options for viewing and engaging with all content.
Plenary Speakers
The conference will feature plenary sessions by some of the world’s leading and emerging thinkers and innovators. We are currently in our selection process. Sign up for our newsletter, like us on Facebook, or join the CGScholar Community to keep up to date.
Presenters
The conference program groups together presentations along similar themes to facilitate knowledge sharing and community building. The first schedule of sessions will be available when we're able to present a complete picture of the conference. In the meantime, you may view a list of all accepted proposals (both confirmed to attend and still pending registration) on our List of Accepted Proposals.
Special Events
We offer delegates a selection of optional activities to help enhance the conference experience. In our blended conference model, both place-based and innovative online spaces will frame serendipitous encounters for personal and professional growth. We are currently working on crafting this year's special events. Visit us again soon, or sign up for our newsletter, like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, or join the Scholar Community.
Important Dates
We welcome the submission of proposals at any time of the year. All proposals will be reviewed within two to four weeks of submission.
